PHOTOS: Nigeria President, Bola Tinubu's Inauguration


Bola Tinubu became Nigeria’s president on Monday during a period of unprecedented challenges for Africa’s most populous country, leaving some citizens hopeful for a better life and others skeptical that his government would perform better than the one he succeeded.


Thousands of Nigerians and several heads of government attended the swearing-in ceremony for the 71-year-old Tinubu in the country’s capital, Abuja. He succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari to lead a country that by 2050 is forecast to become the third most populous nation in the world, tied with the United States after India and China.

Federal Government signs MoU On Dairy Production and Development

The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the dairy sector in Nigeria.

Signing the MoU with one of the world’s largest dairy companies – Arla Foods in Abuja, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – Chief Audu Ogbeh stated that the Nigerian Government in line with its plan on food security, welcomes companies and initiatives that would help in the development of the agricultural sector.

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, on Monday, relaunched the War Against Indiscipline, WAI Brigade, in Abuja, saying in this era of insecurity, violence, kidnapping, and other forms of social vices, the role of the Brigade in civil intelligence gathering cannot be over emphasized.

Announcing the development on the occasion of the National and State Commanders meeting of the Community Support Brigade, CSB, also known as WAI, the Director-General, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Dr. Garba Abari said the President Buhari administration has declared the intention to relaunch the Brigade for better performance, as well as to bring its activities to the fore.

The president and secretary general of FIFA have visited Nigeria to meet African football association leaders.

President Gianni Infantino and secretary general Fatma Samoura arrived in the country on Sunday for a two-day visit and will attend an under-13 international match on Monday as part of the trip.

Police arrest Pastor who chained his 9-year-old son for 1 month (PHOTOS)

After a manhunt, the Ogun State Police Command yesterday arrested 40-year-old Pastor Francis Taiwo of Key of Joy Celestial Church in Ajibawo, Otta, who had chained his son, Korede, for more than one month because, according to him, the child stole food.

According to the police, his arrest was made possible with the assistance of members of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Otta.

Acting Director Army Public Relations Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman made this known in a press statement on Wednesday.

Scores of women in Lagos State on Monday stormed Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s office to protest Senator Dino Melaye’s verbal assault on Senator Oluremi Tinubu and demanded apology from the senator.

Melaye had recently told Tinubu, who represents Lagos Central Senatorial District at the Senate that he would beat her up and ‘impregnate’ her.

Maryland Riot: "BRT did not kill hawker" – Lagos Govt clarifies misconception

The Lagos State Government has clarified the misconception surrounding the unfortunate incident where a street hawker was knocked down by an oncoming truck at Maryland Bus Stop on Wednesday.

The street hawker, who was trying to evade arrest from officials of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), had attempted to cross the road before being hit by the truck, which was erroneously thought to be a BRT Bus.

INEC’s Director of Publicity, Oluwole Osaze-Uzi, says this follows an order by the Abuja Federal High Court mandating INEC to immediately issue Certificate of Return to Mr. Uche Ogah who came second at the last Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries in Abia State.

Ekiti lawmakers protest freezing of Fayose’s accounts
As part of the efforts to drum support for Governor Ayodele Fayose over the freezing of his accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) , members of the state House of Assembly on Wednesday staged a protest by holding its plenary on the highway to express their disenchantment with the action of the anti-graft agency.

They lambasted the EFCC for flouting section 308 of the constitution which conferred absolute immunity on Fayose. They then called for the immediate unfreezing of the accounts in the interest of justice.

Odunde was created in 1975 by Lois Fernandez and Ruth Arthur. The festival attracts over 500,000 people annually and is the largest African American street festivals held in the country.

Muslim youths attack and stab Christian man for not fasting
A Christian man, Francis Emmanuel, on Wednesday narrowly escaped death as a gang of six youths, believed to be Muslims, armed with daggers stabbed him severally at a restaurant in Kakuri, Kaduna.

They accused him for not fasting.

Tension flared after the incident as the man was rushed to St. Gerald Catholic Hospital about a kilometre from Sokoto Street, Kakuri, where the incident happened.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari at the event, performed the launch on Thursday, June 2.
